You are cordially invited to a screening of the acclaimed film “The Letter” at St. John XXIII Catholic Community Parish Hall at 1:00 PM on Sunday, September 24, 2023! Please join us for a potluck lunch and the 80-minute movie, followed by discussion and ideas for action. We will finish by 3:00 PM.
The film, directed by Emmy winner Nicolas Brown, captures the stories of frontline leaders—an indigenous leader from the Amazon, a climate refugee from Senegal, a youth activist from India, and two American scientists—and their journeys to Rome to discuss the environmental encyclical Laudato Si’ with Pope Francis. They create a dialogue that offers a revealing view of the pope’s personal history, as well as new hope for our common home, the Earth.
As Pope Francis said at World Youth Day in Lisbon, “Don’t forget that we need an integral ecology; we need to listen to the suffering of the planet alongside that of the poor; we need to put the drama of desertification parallel to that of refugees; … we need to address the material dimension of life within a spiritual dimension.”
After we watch the movie, we’ll pray, reflect, and talk about how we can take action in response to the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor.
We hope you can join us! The care of our common home requires all of us working together!
Please RSVP to (505) 550-3992 so we can determine the amount of pizza needed!
