A diverse group, with a deep interest in the teachings of the Second Vatican Council met with founding pastor Father Arkad Biczak to study and discuss its teachings in light of what would one day become St. John XXIII Catholic Community. Father Ark conducted a series of workshops that would help to bond this group into a cohesive community of friends. The group met on a regular basis and at the end of a full year, brain stormed about what should be incorporated into the ideal Vatican II parish. Eventually a decision was made to start a new parish in the Northeast Heights in Albuquerque, NM that would reflect the openness of Saint John XXIII and incorporate the ideals and visions of the Second Vatican Council and somehow insure the brainstormed concepts would be brought to fruition. On March 6, 1983 with 35 families, the first Mass for the parish was celebrated. The name JOHN XXIII CATHOLIC COMMUNITY was decided upon and affirmed by all of the new parishioners. One year later the parish received its letter of incorporation from then Archbishop Robert Sanchez.
